The Poitín Maker’s Child is a new work by theatre-maker, performer, and drag artist Shane Gabriel under the direction of Kitty Winter.
This performance blends storytelling, drag, cabaret, and live music to explore the intersections of gender, class, and identity through the eerie, enchanting lens of Irish folklore.
It’s a celebration of queer resilience and working-class creativity, steeped in personal history and absurd tradition. A world where fairies steal children, gender bends to survive, and myths can both harm and heal. It’s about unravelling the stories we were told and daring to write new ones in their place.
This is a show about growing up outside the lines. It’s about claiming joy, chaos, and defiance in the face of control. It’s about stepping into your myth and deciding how it ends.
Just don’t eat anything, or you might never leave…
The Poitín Maker’s Child is supported by Arts Council England, Derby Theatre, Lakeside Arts, In Good Company, Derbyshire LGBTQ+ and Fáinne Sióg.
