How Much is Social Media Effecting 10-13 Year Olds?
A presentation by Abbie Dempsey
Abbie has been collaborating with Derby Youth Theatre to raise awareness of social media’s impact through the drama technique Mantle of the Expert—an educational approach that uses imaginary contexts to create purposeful and engaging learning experiences. Within this framework, students take on the roles of experts, working on a commissioned task for a client.
Join me as I share insights from this process and explore how drama techniques helped young people engage with and understand social media’s influence.
Coping Mechanisms: Reflections on an Applied Drama Workshop for Care Experience Young People
A presentation by Nikita Armes
Creating drama workshops to implement change has always been an interest of mine. Drama saved my life, in more ways than one, being able to open your mind to a whole new world of different perspectives. It gives you the chance to explore yourself and others on a deep emotional level. Workshops taught me different ways of coping in the real world, so I wanted to learn how to do it, so I can help others too. I believe individuals who have experienced some trauma, work better through a creative process, more than on paper.
The aim of my applied theatre workshop and research is to explore how our choices and reactions to different situations can influence ourselves, as well as others. The participants will have more awareness of the difference between positive coping mechanisms and negative coping mechanisms, and how this affects everyday life.
Nikita will be discussing the process through this project, her research and conclusion of putting into practice a drama workshop around positive and negative coping mechanisms. She will also cover the teaching methods considered and used along with highlighting the challenges she faced.
