Get ready for an immersive and unforgettable theatre experience with our exclusive stage seating for the upcoming production of Welfare, a new play by the award-winning British-Armenian playwright Abi Zakarian.

Featuring the powerful sounds of Derwent Brass, Welfare promises to be a profound and captivating journey through the history of the Derbyshire Miners’ Holiday Camp in Skegness.

About the Show:

Welfare invites audiences to unite as miners, holidaymakers, strikers, and bingo hall players come together in a tale of refuge, hope, and joy. Derby Theatre will be transformed into the historic site of the Derbyshire Miners’ Holiday Camp, a place where miners and their families went to convalesce and later to holiday. This pioneering holiday camp was a beacon of community spirit and resilience, reflecting the highs and lows of history.

The play follows a family across generations, exploring the profound impact of time and change on individuals and communities alike. Through brass bands, rousing speeches, engaging entertainment, and vibrant bingo games, Welfare captures the essence of a unique cultural heritage.
