Join us for a vibrant Celebration of the Cultures of India in Derby!

Get ready for an unforgettable evening of community, culture, and entertainment right here in Normanton!

We are thrilled to invite you to our Celebration of the Cultures of India, an event filled with music, dance, and film that highlights the rich heritage of India in Derby.

Event Highlights:

Community-Made Snacks: Enjoy delicious free snacks prepared by our local community as we transform the space into a cosy private cinema.

Film Screening: ‘Bhangra Beats Derby’: Settle into your seats for a special screening of ‘Bhangra Beats Derby,’ a captivating film created by Satvinder Rana and commissioned by Derby CAN. This short documentary explores the rich legacy of Bhangra music, dance, and culture in Derby. It chronicles the history and significant impact of Bhangra in the city, highlighting international stars who have roots in Derby.

Q&A with Filmmaker Satvinder Rana: After the film, share your own memories and ask questions during a Q&A session with the filmmaker Satvinder Rana.

‘Satvinder, a former BBC radio presenter, is best known for creating and hosting the iconic Aajkal Show on BBC Radio Derby for over 41 years, making him the longest-serving Asian radio presenter in the UK. With a deep passion for Bhangra music and broadcasting, Satvinder is now expanding his talents into documentary production.’

Community Involvement:

This event is brought to you by our dedicated Normanton Community Steering Group, which meets every 3-4 weeks to plan exciting workshops and events. We welcome your ideas and feedback on what you’d like to see in the future.

Funding and Support:

This celebration is part of the Derby Theatre Community Program and is generously funded by The National Lottery Community Fund.

The image displays a logo with a cartoon-style crossing it's fingers. Placed to the left of the words "COMMUNITY FUND" in bold, magenta-coloured uppercase letters. The friendly and simple design suggests a focus on community and positive engagement.

Don’t miss this opportunity to connect with your local community and immerse yourself in the vibrant world of Bhangra.

We look forward to seeing you there!
