Derby CAN presents Derby Mela, a Punjabi Music festival!

EVENT SOLD OUT!

Come and bhangra in the park with us on Sunday 20 August from 1pm until 7pm.

Derbions, we call on you to come and experience your hometown talent and more!

We have performances from Derby’s best JK, Angrej Ali, Kulvinder Johal and a special set from Tru Skool with our very own Paramount Roadshow on the decks! We also have Shin DCS, Asif Khan, Preet Kaur, Munraj, Khushi Kaur and a qawwali special from Rubaya Pirzada.

No Mela is complete without dancers, there will be performances from Shakti Academy and Addi Tappa Gidda Group Derby.

Dhol players Dholi Amo and Dholi Gugs and hosts from BBC Radio Derby’s Satvinder Rana, Pam Sidhu and Poli Tank!

Come and enjoy food, drink, stalls and of course, the music!

We have worked alongside local communities from the Derby area to programme, plan and deliver this wonderful, two-day community-focused music festival which showcases music and artists from across the region, UK and from across the world.

Derby CAN Music Festival aims to bring the communities of our great city together to celebrate its diversity, rich cultural heritage and musical talent.

The Derby CAN Music Festival takes place across two days, on Saturday 19 & Sunday 20 August. The World Music Festival is on Saturday 19 August from 1pm until 7pm. The Derby CAN Music Festival is on Sunday 20 August from 1pm until 7pm.

The Derby CAN Music Festival is FREE to attend. – Booking is required.

Tickets are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis – so early booking is STRONGLY recommended – these can be booked via;

  • By calling the Derby Theatre Box Office on 01332 59 39 39
  • In person at the Derby Theatre Box Office in the Derbion Centre.

We will have a small number of tickets available from the Box Office within the park on the day. However, these will be limited and will be issued on a first-come, first-served basis. To avoid disappointment, we recommend that you book your tickets in advance.

Both days of the festival will takes place at the same location, at:
Normanton Park, Warwick Avenue, Derby, DE23 8DA

Gates open at 12.15pm on both days, with the main stage activity starting at 1pm and finishing at approx. 7.30pm.

Under 18s are more than welcome to come along to the event. However, they will need to be included in a booking to gain entry and must be accompanied by an adult.

There is NO on-site parking for the event. We strongly suggest that you either walk, or use public transport, to the event. If you do need to drive to the event, please be respectful of residents living in, and needing to park in, those areas – and DO NOT block access for the Emergency Services.

Yes, we will have plenty of toilets on-site, including disabled toilets and baby change facilities.

There will be a Lost Child and Vulnerable Adult point located at the Event Information Point. This will be clearly signposted.

Parents and guardians will have an opportunity to write their phone number on their child’s wristband, so we can give you a call and quickly reunite you if you do become separated.

Lost children or Vulnerable Adults should be reported immediately to the nearest event steward.

There will be a first aid point at the event which will be located near to the admissions area, it will be operational between 12 – 8pm.

If you require medical assistance when on-site either: make your way to the designated First Aid points or alert an event steward.

There will be a programme of participatory workshops taking place across the weekend.

There will be a selection of food vendors on-site over the weekend where you will be able to purchase a range of food options including fish and chips, burgers and hotdogs and Bluebells ice cream.

You are more than welcome to bring a picnic along with you. However, glass and knives are strictly not permitted on-site. Any glass or knives found will be removed immediately by security. Bag and wand checks will be in place at the point of admission,

The event is strictly an alcohol-free event. NO alcohol will be permitted onto the event site.

Yes you are more than welcome to bring along an outdoor seat into the event. We will also have some on-site seating around the food area.

To ensure the safety of audiences, artists, and event staff, we will have a security presence on-site, this includes bag and wand searches.
