This special project will spotlight a range of people who have either helped shape Derby Theatre and/or whose lives have been positively impacted by their connection with us—including audience members, young people, café users, artists, staff, and community participants past and present.
Our idea is that we would like to select 50 people who have or have had this kind of relationship with us over the years. To make the task practically viable, we are imagining that the photographer will work in the theatre over a number of days, perhaps taking the photographs in various locations in or around the building that are relevant to each person. However, we would like the photographer to propose their own creative ideas and practical solutions for this.
We are seeking a photographer who:
- Has a strong, distinctive portrait style with a keen eye for storytelling.
- Can sensitively and creatively capture a diverse range of subjects
- Is experienced in working in a range of settings and with diverse communities
- Can collaborate with our creative and community teams to ensure the work meets the needs of the overall project.
The selected photographer will contribute to a powerful visual legacy that celebrates the people at the heart of Derby Theatre’s story. — Each portrait will be accompanied by an audio story told by the participant.
