Step into 50 years of costume magic with Derby Theatre’s Costume Trail

Published Wednesday 17th Sep 2025
As part of Derby Theatre’s 50th Anniversary celebrations, the city is being transformed into a stage of its own with an interactive Costume Trail.

From the Derbion shopping centre to some of Derby’s most well-known locations, visitors can discover expertly crafted costumes from past productions, each displayed on
mannequins and brought to life through an interesting and
insightful citywide trail. These costumes – designed and created by talented theatre makers and costume designers over the years – offer a rare chance to get up close to the artistry usually only glimpsed under the stage lights.

The Costume Trail is interactive too. You can follow along on digital devices/phones or pick up a map and quiz sheet to guide you. With 10 costumes to find across Derby, the challenge is simple: can you spot them all?

There’s more – everyone who completes the quiz and enters will be in with a chance of winning FOUR tickets to Derby Theatre’s production of Oliver Twist.

Derby Theatre’s Costume Trail is a celebration not only of the Theatre’s rich history, but also of the city’s creativity and community. The trail invites everyone to experience a touch of theatrical magic woven into the fabric of Derby itself.
