We invite you to join us for our sixth MA Applied Theatre & Education Symposium to share our practice, and research findings.
It is 60 years since TiE was created by Belgrade Coventry – despite having inspired the world in using theatre and drama educationally, the funding for the work is at its most vulnerable and precarious.
How can identity politics around race, trans and a sense of belonging facilitate these communities to have safe, creative and empowering conversations? How can increasing a sense of connection through telling our stories challenge far right nationalist politics?
MA Applied Theatre & Education students will present their research findings through, performance, co-creation and storytelling to address these questions delivering across the region in schools, community centres, and with youth theatre groups. At University of Derby, we have created a unique practice within Derby Theatre’s The Learning Theatre to facilitate research and create strong relationships between practitioners, students, teachers, young people and academics. Students will present their participatory methods with young people contributing to the development of critical thinking skills, creativity and wellbeing.
We will celebrate what has been achieved towards furthering our vision to engage and empower young people and our communities, whilst engaging in new theories and performance pedagogy.
A remote access link to join the Symposium online will be provided upon request.
