Creative Oracy: Online Taster Briefing for Primary School Leaders and Teachers

Wed 24 June, 2026
Many schools are recognising the growing importance of spoken language, pupil voice and classroom communication, but are still asking what effective oracy looks like in everyday practice.

Drama, role play and practical application bring oracy to life and Voice 21 approaches provide the structure.

This short online taster session introduces Creative Oracy, a practical approach developed through a two-year project delivered across six schools in partnership with Derby Theatre and St Ralph Sherwin Catholic Multi Academy Trust. The project has reached over 2,100 pupils and explored how drama-based approaches support participation, confidence and communication across the curriculum, particularly for pupils with EAL.

During this interactive 45 to 60 minute session, participants will experience practical Creative Oracy strategies, explore how drama supports structured classroom talk, and reflect on participation, engagement and pupil voice.

Ideal for primary teachers, oracy leads, literacy leads, SENDCos and senior leaders.
