Qawwali is a vibrant, devotional music style originating from South Asia. It is rooted in Sufi mysticism using hypnotic rhythms & poetic lyrics, praising saints and divine love thro powerful vocals, harmonium, tabla drums, and rhythmic clapping set in communal gatherings. Derived from the Arabic “qaul” (utterance), it is an artistic form of spiritual expression.
Traditionally performed by male artists it has evolved to include celebrated female singers. Qawwali was made popular to Western audiences by artists such as the legendary late Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.
We eagerly look forward to presenting the world-renowned ‘Khan Brothers Qawwali Group’, following on from their hit shows in Canada, they are currently on tour in the UK.
