In Search of Meera Syal
In Search of Meera Syal is written and performed by Nafeesa Hamid and Rupinder Kaur Waraich. This piece follows two Birmingham artists, frustrated by industry rejections and superficial diversity initiatives, as they set off on a road trip in search of their artistic hero, Meera Syal. Both comedic and heartfelt, the performance explores identity, resilience, and the struggles of artistic survival.
Tyranny of the King Edwards
Somewhere, sometime—though for now, in a theatre—Emma is meticulously preparing to execute her closest friend, Beatrice.
Through dance, theatre, and clowning, this surreal piece explores dehumanisation and propaganda, as absurdity and dark humour unravel a deeper reflection on modern society.
Oh, and by the way- Beatrice – She’s a spud.

The Poitín Maker’s Child
Shane Gabriel, is a genderfluid Derby-based theatre maker, drag queen, storyteller blends cabaret, folklore, and gender play into mischievous, thought-provoking performances. Collaborating with musician Joe Lammond, who creates atmospheric, folk-infused soundscapes, they present The Poitín Maker’s Child, an interactive exploration of identity, transformation, and rebellion. Supported by Arts Council funding and Derby Theatre, the piece continues development in August.
Stumblin’
Stumblin’ is an immersive, playful performance created by mural artist Woosun Choi (South Korea) and theatre practitioner, Syania Shaharuddin (Singapore), both now based in Nottingham. Born from the shared experience of navigating adulthood—especially after moving across continents—this piece explores the everyday hurdles that somehow feel insurmountable (tax claims? A nightmare). What helped? Drinks, laughter, and collective moaning about the absurdity of it all. At its core, Stumbling celebrates the power of togetherness in overcoming these challenges.
Woosun Choi is an independent visual artist from Seoul, South Korea and attained a Master in Fine Arts from Nottingham Trent University, where she is now based. Her practice revolves around the externalisation of personal emotions in various fictional characters that she asserts are all a part of herself. Syania Shaharuddin, from Singapore, now based in Nottingham, a creative and producer. Her works focus on expanding diversity and play through theatre.
