Theatre for Young People with Down’s Syndrome
A presentation by Miles Steer
I’m Miles, and my brother has Down’s Syndrome. He deserves the same opportunities as anyone else, and so do all young people with additional needs. That’s why I ran workshops focused on theatre for young people with learning disabilities, particularly those with Down’s Syndrome.
In this session, I’ll share what worked well during the workshops, the challenges I faced, and the key lessons I learned about preparing and adapting theatre activities for a group of young people with additional needs.
How Much is Social Media Effecting 10-13 Year Olds?
A presentation by Abbie Dempsey
Abbie has been collaborating with Derby Youth Theatre to raise awareness of social media’s impact through the drama technique Mantle of the Expert—an educational approach that uses imaginary contexts to create purposeful and engaging learning experiences. Within this framework, students take on the roles of experts, working on a commissioned task for a client.
Join me as I share insights from this process and explore how drama techniques helped young people engage with and understand social media’s influence.
