War echoes through a family home. History speaks through generations of women. This compelling double bill weaves personal memory with political reality, uncovering the stories that connect the intimate and the international.

When Dad Went to War
By Holly Wincott

Sometimes, small parts of our lives are connected to far bigger stories of the world than we realise. Things happen every day that we don’t realise. Discover how real childhood memories of a father in service can link to America’s longest war and beyond.

Mama
By Olivia Osbourne

A play about a black woman from Jamaica migrating to Britain and her experiences. Exploring what her mother and ancestors would vocalise through their thoughts, the piece focuses on male and female slave owners of Jamaica, from the everyday racist man to the politicians. The aim is not to challenge audiences’ views and assumptions that may hold imperialist views, but to lend strength to the quiet voices, allowing the marginalised to stand tall, heads fully erect. The historical relationship between the slave owners and slaves is expressed using profanity, humour and cursing out the oppressor.
