Derby Theatre and IGC Independent Producer Residencies is supported by the Jerwood Developing Artists Fund.

Derby Theatre and In Good Company (IGC) are joining forces to develop and deliver a brand-new programme of paid Producer residences after being awarded funding as part of the first wave of recipients from the Jerwood Developing Artists Fund.

The Jerwood Developing Artists Fund is a dedicated fund from Jerwood Arts to support arts organisations to deliver transformative early-career artist development programmes across the UK. The Derby Theatre and IGC Independent Producer Residencies, as part of this national programme, will support 8 early-career producers across 2 years to develop their professional practice in a meaningful and practical way, pairing training, mentorship, and hands-on experience to introduce new producers to the basics, develop their skills and give them real time experience of producing their first production.

Derby Theatre launched its artist development strand In Good Company (IGC) in 2013 and together, they have put the Midlands on the map as a place that supports a thriving independent theatre sector. There is a distinct lack of producers across the industry, and this is magnified in the East Midlands. Through this scheme, we aim to identify and develop the most talented and promising producers of the future.

Sarah Brigham, Chief Executive and Artistic Director, Derby Theatre and Emily Coleman, Consultant Producer IGC said:

“In Good Company and Derby Theatre are delighted to be joining forces to present this innovative new scheme aimed at developing the diversity of the producers who are helping artists to make work and shining a light on new producers whose work often happens behind the scenes. More than ever, the independent sector need new producers who are able to advocate for artists voices and this will develop a model to train and develop a new generation.”

Recruitment for the Derby Theatre and IGC Independent Producer Residencies will be via an open call in January 2023 and the first cohort will start in April 2023.
