Derby Theatre is Skegness-bound…and inviting local people to join them for free

Published Friday 6th Oct 2023
Do you have any memories of staying at the Derbyshire Miners’ Holiday Camp in Skegness? If so, we want to hear from you...

Following the current smash-hit success of Brassed Off; in 2024, Derby Theatre will produce and present a brand new play, Welfare (It Were Welfare To Us) by award-winning playwright, Abi Zakarian; a hilarious and heartfelt show that will shine a light on miners, holiday makers, strikers, bingo hall players and those seeking refuge.

As part of the research and development of the script for Welfare, Derby Theatre is hitting the road on a coach to the Lincolnshire coastline and the ever-popular seaside town of Skegness…and we would like to invite people from the Derbyshire area with stories/memories of staying at the Derbyshire Miners’ Holiday Camp to join us… for FREE!

The coach trip to Skegness will be on Wednesday 25 October, and the schedule for the day will be:

– Leave Derby Theatre at 9am
– Visit the Derbyshire Miners’ Holiday Camp
– Lunch at The View Café Bar to discuss stories and memories of the camp (a free lunch will also be provided)
– Leave Skegness to return to Derby Theatre (estimated time of arrival back at the theatre is 6pm).

If you are interested in being considered for the trip:

We ask that you have memories/stories of staying at the Derbyshire Miners’ Holiday Camp that you would be happy to share and discuss on the day (which may also be used/referenced to in the final script).

We ask if you can make your own way to and back from Derby Theatre on the day. However, support with travel can be offered if required.
