4 Walls, a high-energy, multimedia experience with live music, performance, dance and large-scale digital projection.

4 Walls will run at Derby Theatre for a limited time only next month, on from Friday 10 until Saturday 18 June.

4 Walls is a new play written by local hip-hop artist and Music Producer, Rukus and which features a professional cast of actors and a community ensemble. The show has been produced as part of Derby CAN (Creative Arts Network), a 3-year Arts Council England Producing Hubs funded project led by Derby Theatre in partnership with a consortium of organisations from Derby and beyond to co-create and co-curate with various communities in and around the city.

The 4 Walls cast includes: Donna Briscoe Greene (singer, performer, Cultural Music and Arts Award winner, pub landlady of The Maypole Café Bar and Theatre in Derby); Timotei Cobeanu (Lit for the Bush Theatre and Romeo & Juliet and Richard III for Cambridge Shakespeare Festival); Aimee Powell (Nothello for Belgrade Theatre and Crongton Knights for Belgrade Theatre and Pilot Theatre); Jerone Marsh-Field (Marvellous for New Vic, Stoke and Charlie and Stan and The Strange Tale of Charlie Chaplin and Stan Laurel for Told by an Idiot); Ida Regan (Beauty and the Beast for The Dukes, Lancaster and Birds and Bees for Theatre Centre and Soho Theatre); Kate Spencer (Coronation Street for ITV, Doctors for the BBC and Great Expectations for Derby Theatre) and Marcel White (Crongton Knights for Belgrade Theatre and Pilot Theatre and A Taste of Honey, a National Theatre Tour).

A Caribbean woman is surprised to be caught up in a scandal, in her old age. A school kid suffers sleepless nights in fear of deportation yet his dreams of a music career stay big. Then there’s what’s her face, you know, the young nomad, out of place soul plodding the lonely road and not to 4get Femi, the inner-city dreamer, ambitious and aspirational, a believer. But as their journeys go on, something just seems wrong. Living in the same block of flats, each stranger is experiencing a deafening chorus of fear that crescendos and bursts into a Uni-verse, which is simply entitled: Find where you belong.

4 Walls includes live saxophone music, rap, dance and multimedia and invites you into a world of community; discovering what fundamental needs are, who informs them and how we navigate where we go.

The creative team for 4 Walls is Rukus (Writer); Corey Campbell (Director); Charlotte Henery (Designer); Benny Goodman (Lighting Designer); Barret Hodgson (Video Designer); DeFaceless Producer (Sound Designer); Omar Khan (Assistant Director); Keiren Hamilton-Amos (Co-Movement Director) and Marcus Joseph (Saxophonist).

BSL performance: Friday 17 June, 7.30pm.

Post-show discussion: after the evening performance on Friday 17 June.
