Spring 2025 promises a jam-packed season of sensational shows, exciting events and lots of ways to get involved, something to suit all ages and theatrical tastes – from MADE IN DERBY productions to top-class touring shows; family fun to wonderful one-nighters – a wealth of shows on offer to entertain, make you laugh, feel inspired and to share with others.
To kick off 2025 in spectacular style, Derby Theatre is proud to present, in co-production with Bolton Octagon, Hull Truck Theatre and Theatre Lake, their MADE IN DERBY production of John Steinbeck’s classic novella – Of Mice and Men, on from Thursday 6 February until Saturday 1 March. Lennie and George are unlikely best friends, two drifters bound together by a shared faith and the ambition to live the great American Dream, during the Great Depression. With all performances including creative captioning; they take you on a trip to the 1930s with themes of friendship, migration and prejudice. Of Mice and Men moves and resonates with audiences of all ages and backgrounds.
Following on later in the year our next MADE IN DERBY production will be Amanda Whittington’s Kiss Me Quickstep, a glorious, glitterball-filled show full of stunning ballroom dancing, sequins and secrets. Step onto the dance floor and experience the thrilling journey of ambition, sacrifice and resilience, on from Friday 6 to Saturday 21 June.
Looking ahead to autumn 2025, we will produce, in partnership with Pitlochry Festival Theatre, the gripping story of The Great Gatsby directed by Sarah Brigham which unfolds in the West Egg district of Long Island. This sparkling new adaptation will play in the main house from Friday 3 to Saturday 25 October and will bring F. Scott Fitzgerald’s iconic characters and vivid imagery to life set against the backdrop of the glitzy and glamourous Jazz Age.
Global smash-hit shows and pioneering performances also feature next spring and include Blood Brothers, the legendary, long-running musical which tells the captivating and moving tale of twins who, separated at birth, grow up on opposite sides of the tracks, only to meet again with fateful consequences, on from Tuesday 14 to Saturday 18 January. One man’s spiritual journey is about to begin in 10 Nights, a moving and funny play on from Monday 27 until Wednesday 29 January. Buffy, The Vampire Slayer is here for 2 nights only, on Wednesday 5 and Thursday 6 March; and John Godber fans are in for a treat with Do I Love You?, a hilarious comedy from the master himself about Northern Soul, on from Tuesday 25 to Saturday 29 March.
As we go through the spring, the superb shows on offer continue and include: Last Rites, a show which combines exciting physical, non-verbal storytelling with dynamic projection and an immersive soundtrack, told through a Deaf man’s unique perspective; Spitfire Girls, inspired by remarkable true events of pioneering females; Alan Bleasdale’s iconic Boys from the Blackstuff and The Elmer Adventure for younger theatregoers.
Other top-class touring shows and wonderful one-nighters include: Strictly star and stand-up comedian, Chris McCausland; Kim’s Convenience, the award-winning play which inspired the Netflix comedy following on from hugely successful runs both in London and internationally; BBC Big Band The Sound of Cinema, Pirates Love Underpants, a show promised to deliver music, puppetry and glittering pants of gold, and Julia Donaldson and Sara Ogilvie’s well-loved story, The Detective Dog, perfect for deaf and hearing families; balletLORENT’S Snow White, An Audience with Harry Redknapp to regale us with stories from his football and TV career; An Evening with Aggers, the true cricket legend and renowned BBC correspondent; Black is the Color of my Voice, inspired by the life of Nina Simone and featuring many of her most iconic songs performed live; Crooners Uncaged; A Brother with Soul, and a night in the company of The Great British Bake Off star judge with An Evening with Dame Prue Leith….plus much much more!
