Creative Oracy: CPDL Training for Teachers

Fri 27 Feb, 2026
Empowering classrooms where every voice is heard.

This one-day Creative Oracy Training is built on two years of proven impact through the Speak Out Project. The National Curriculum and Assessment Review is clear that spoken language and drama are going to be vital.

This is the moment to upskill, and we have the knowledge and experience to help.

“Over the past two years, in collaboration with Derby Theatre and our wonderful artist Laura, we have been taught how to use drama to develop children’s speaking and listening skills, and this has not just been successful; it’s been transformative.  Through drama-based oracy activities – storytelling, role-play, structured debate – our children have found their voice. They are more confident, articulate, and reflective.  This impact has been particularly profound for our SEND learners, many of whom face barriers around communication, confidence, or social interaction.” — F. Hickling (Teacher St Elizabeth’s Catholic Voluntary Academy)

Some students speak with ease. Others struggle to find the words or confidence. This one-day Creative Oracy Training draws on two years of proven impact from the Speak Out Project, developed with the St Ralph Sherwin Catholic Multi Academy Trust and Derby Theatre. Teachers consistently reported stronger engagement, clearer communication, and improved confidence, especially for disadvantaged and EAL learners.

Rooted in the respected Voice 21 framework, this training uses drama and creative practice to enrich lessons and bring oracy to life in practical, accessible ways. It aligns with national curriculum expectations that “spoken language underpins the development of reading and writing.” And that “Drama and role play can contribute to the quality of pupils’ writing.” – GOV.UK

What to expect

  • Hands-on activities you can use immediately
  • Strategies to build confident, articulate learners
  • A collaborative, creative learning space

Our evidence shows that Creative Oracy closes that gap, particularly for those who face disadvantage and with EAL, by explicitly combining oracy progression with drama techniques.

This opportunity to access a proven, high-impact oracy approach doesn’t come often and spaces will go quickly.
