Creative Oracy: Training for Teachers

Fri 3 Apr, 2026
“If we want children to find their place in the world, we must first give them the power to speak within it, because oracy isn’t just a tool for learning, it’s a voice for life.” — Speak Out Teacher St Ralph Sherwin Trust

Using Macbeth as a starting point and building on the success of our two-year Speak Out Project, developed with the St Ralph Sherwin Catholic Multi Academy Trust, this training uses creative practice to enhance teacher confidence, enrich lessons, and bring oracy to life in meaningful, engaging ways.

Creative Oracy closes that gap by explicitly combining oracy progression with drama techniques so pupils learn how to speak, not just when to speak.

The National Curriculum is clear that “spoken language underpins the development of reading and writing,” and that “Drama and role play can contribute to the quality of pupils’ writing.”
