Directing Workshop with Anthony Lau: Classics Reimagined

Join In Good Company and Anthony Lau for a 2 hour directing workshop.

Classics Reimagined.

Using Arthur Miller’s THE CRUCIBLE as an example, this workshop will explore the process of taking a well known classic and reimagining it for today. This will be a practical workshop, with a particular focus on design.

Anthony Lau was Associate Artistic Director at Sheffield Theatres from 2020 – 2024. He was also previously Associate Artistic Director at the Regional Theatre Young Director Scheme and Laboratory Associate Director at Nuffield Southampton Theatres.

Theatre directing credits include: Man and Boy (National Theatre); Lord of the Flies (Chichester Festival Theatre); Frankenstein (Donmar Warehouse schools tour); The Jingleclaw (Birmingham Hippodrome); The Crucible, Miss Saigon, Rock/Paper/Scissors, Anna Karenina and The Band Plays On (Crucible Theatre, Sheffield); The Good Person of Szechwan (Crucible Theatre, Sheffield and Lyric Theatre Hammersmith); The Shadow Factory (revival) and Juicy and Delicious (Nuffield Southampton); The Cherry Orchard and A Better Man (Young Vic); The Common Land (Rose Theatre Kingston); Still Life/Red Peppers (Old Red Lion); I Am a Camera (Southwark Playhouse).

Awards/nominations include: Best Director, UK Theatre Awards (for Rock/Paper/Scissors); Nominated: Best Director and Best Play Revival, WhatsOnStage Awards (for The Crucible); Best Regional Production, Whatsonstage Awards and Best Musical Production, UK Theatre Awards (for Miss Saigon); Best Show for Children and Young People, UK Theatre Awards (for The Jingleclaw).

Anthony trained as a director at LAMDA and at the National Theatre Studio.
